The houses have traditionally competed at Inter House sports carnivals with the victorious receiving a respective trophy.
The Age Champion awards are fiercely sought after and maximum participation makes these events a definite date for the diary for the entire school community.
District Trials
There are many talented students at Manly State School who excel in a number of sports.
Students are given the opportunity to trial for Bayside district teams, with some going onto represent the State of Queensland.
Sports include swimming, athletics, rugby, tennis, soccer, cricket and cross country, aquathlon, rugby union, touch, softball, netball, golf, basketball and AFL.
Cross Country
Year 4 - 6 Cross Country Carnival to be held in Term 1 with the Junior Cross Country Prep- Year 3 being held in Term 3.
All students are expected to participate in the cross country carnival unless they have a medical reason. Year 4-6 students head to Memorial Park and can run the course that is set up for Age Champion and to be a part of the Manly team at the Bayside District Trial, or compete in the Mini Marathon which allows them to gain house points for their house team. Once the time limit has been reached runners will complete the lap they are on regardless of whether or not they have finished the course. Prep- Year 3 students will have a running course set up on the oval at school and obtain house points for participating in the carnival.
Points will be allocated for all participants and will go towards the house trophy. Age Champion medallions will be awarded. This carnival is also for selection to attend the Bayside District Cross Country Trials. The first 3 place getters in the 10 - 12 years age groups will be eligible should they meet the district qualifying times.
Interschool Sport
An inclusive and fun experience, Interschool sport offers students in grades 4 to 6 to put into practice skills learned in physical education lessons.
Students also receive additional coaching sessions during a season.
Many sports are on offer including netball, touch, soccer and sailing.
Swimming
All students in Year 1-6 have the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons in Term 4.
Year 1-2 students participate in a learn to swim program, while Year 3-6 participate in a water safety program.
